I am using the OE Yam unit. So far so good. The fuse not blown yet and the battery seems to be charging alright. The headlights and everything are working with no issues.

You can buy the conversion kit and keep them if you're planning to go a full blown 5 speed conversion. Who knows you may not get the kit in the future ! My suggestion.
